Bylaw Change Denied

On October 16th, the faculty voted to include Adjunct Faculty among those eligible to serve on the Department’s Standing Personnel Committee.  The Senate’s Committee on Rules and Jurisdictions has denied this requested Bylaw change, saying that it does not interpret Senate Bylaw 55 as allowing a Department to extend voting privileges on Senate Faculty Academic Personnel actions to non-Senate members.

Accordingly, the Standing Personnel Committee will have to be constituted only of Senate Faculty.

I have written to the CR&J for clarification and to see if there is any wiggle room in their ruling.
